Surveillance video shared by Mint Julep Market owner Hillary Hart Dunham shows the woman looking at a tan purse on Thursday, Dec. 11, then later stuffing it in her bag.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The owner of a local store says a purse stolen a few days ago has been returned, likely due to pressure from social media.

Surveillance video shows a woman taking a tan purse from Mint Julep Market on Thursday, December 11.

“We could not believe it,” said Hillary Hart Dunham, the store’s owner.  “It’s just clear as day.”

The video was shared thousands of times on Facebook, YouTube and other websites, and Monday, just after the store opened, a person walked in and returned the purse.

Dunham said the person didn’t say anything, really.  She said it was a different person than the woman in the video.  The person handed over the item and quickly left.

Police are investigating a lead, Dunham said.

The bag was a hand-sewn tan leather purse from Turkey valued at $200.  Dunham says this is one of the pricier items in the store, which is located at 7540 B South Memorial Parkway.
